Job Description

Public Health Coordinator - Nias
Nias, Indonesia
£17,399 per annum net (including hard-to-work allowance of GBP3,000 per annum net.)

Who we are

In December 2004, a massive earthquake struck the Indonesia region, triggering a massive tsunami that devastated the north and west coast of Aceh Province. 170,000 are dead or missing and 2 million people were made homeless. Oxfam was at the forefront of the international relief effort. Then in March 2005, another earthquake struck, causing widespread destruction in Nias, an island off the coast of North Sumatra. Again, we at Oxfam responded rapidly. We plan to remain in the area until early 2008, working closely with local communities and partners to support recovery.

The role

Managing and co-ordinating our Public Health Engineering Programme, you must ensure that its aims, including community/beneficiary participation and empowerment, are effectively performed. This will include providing technical advice and guidance to the Programme Manager on a variety of issues, as well as ensuring gender participation and protection issues are reflected in programme design and implementation. Able to effectively and continually motivate your Public Health Engineering Team, you must also act as a key member of the Nias Senior Management Team.

What we are looking for

The importance of this role means you must hold a public health engineering qualification, together with 3 years’ relevant experience. Already skilled in community water supplies, environmental sanitation, health promotion and community mobilisation, you’ll know how to motivate your public health engineering colleagues effectively, in order to achieve the best possible results. You must also possess excellent analytical and planning skills, as well as strong diplomatic and negotiating abilities. Good English is essential, while Indonesian Bahasa is an advantage
